Record Store Day, an event not to be missed.

Record Store Day has now turned into a tradition for collectors and record store owners. Every Record Store Day is now marked with exclusive releases and reissues especially launched for the event.
In 2016 for instance, we discovered the album I Go Shout Plenty by Fela Kuti, the OS from Requiem for a Dream by Clint Mansell and the album The Alternate Tusk by Fleetwood Mac.

This year again, we’ll be spoiled! Record Store Day will be celebrating its 10th anniversary on April 22nd and will disclose highly interesting releases.

The year 2016 sadly saw three worldwide famous artists pass away: David Bowie, Prince, and Leonard Cohen. Record Store Day has decided to comfort their fans by putting these music stars in the spotlight. Expect some gems and great reissues in the crates this year!

  • A tribute album to Leonard Cohen : Like a Drunk in a Midnight Choir (all profits will go to cancer research).
  • A release of Little Red Corvette by Prince; the original issue dated 1983 had been sold out since 1985.
  • A release from David Bowie's concert Cracked Actor, in Los Angeles, September 5th 1974.
  • A release of the posthumous album Born Again by The Notorious B.I.G. commemorating the 20th anniversary of his death.
  • An exclusive release of Santana's concert August 16th 1969 Live at The Woodstock Music & Art Fair.

Record Store Day was initiated by some independent record store owners, in 2007, to “celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store”.
The idea was also to help small record stores fighting mass market competition and illegal downloading.

It quickly spread to Canada, and countries from all continents joined the concept. In 2009, it reached Europe, Germany and France started theirs in 2011. Japan also launched its first Record Store day in 2011.

Year after year, it continues to be a special day to bring together artists, fans and independent record stores... Festivities include performances, concerts and various musical activities for the joy of all music lovers.

Now don’t tell us you don’t know what to do this coming weekend!
There has to be something fun close by!

Happy Digging!
