In honor of the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, we have decided to focus on Brazilian music. Come and have a look at our short selection that obviously cannot cover all Brazilian music but we hope will warm you up and make you dance along February.

Stan Getz et João Gilberto Featuring Antonio Carlos Jobim

This album released in 1964 is a classic of Latin Jazz ; a fantastic result of a collaboration between the duo formed by Stan Getz, an american saxophone player and the Brazilian singer Joao Gilberto and the Brazilian piano player Antonio Carlos Jobim. The album got a Grammy Award in 1965 and the title « The Girl From Ipanema » was awarded best recording of the year 1965. The album got famous all around the world and was rated 447th album amongst the 500 best albums of all time by the Rolling Stone magazine in 2012. This album is a real Jazz gem.

Jorge ben Jor - A Tábua de Esmeralda

The recipe for the album is simple and effective. Mix up together a guitar, a bass guitar and some Brazilian percussions. Jorge Ben’s very creative style reached its highest peak in the 70s, and in this album, the acoustic guitar added to his voice reveals it even more. This album is a series of sunny and cheerful melodies.

Chico Buarque - Construção

With this studio album, Chico Buarque makes us tour Brazil. The album has a touch of Bossa and Samba as well as traditional Brazilian music. Chico Buarque’s style is everywhere on every track of the album issued in 1971, making him a canonical artist of Brazilian music. The title Construçao was awarded the most beautiful Brazilian song of all times by the Rolling Stone magazine.

Arthur Verocai - Arthur Verocai

This album didn’t get the success it deserved at the time it was issued and it even marked the end of Arthur Verocai’s musical career. However, the album came back to light in the year 2000 through HipHop samples. MF Doom sampled Na Boca Do Sol, Goldlink sampled Velho Parente. The revival of the album gave Arthur Verocai the rank he deserved within Brazilian music. Indeed, this album can be defined as a classic.

Marcos Valle - Previsão do tempo

After his numerous hits in the 60s and the beginning of the 70s, Marcos Valle, a very prolific artist, released this gem of popular Brazilian music in 1973. Marcos Valle shares with us the heat of the Brazilian sun on a music tinted with electronic melodies. The album is an invitation for relaxation and meditation while listening to his voice and the album beats.

Ederaldo Gentil - Samba, canto livre de um povo

Ederaldo Gentil is a composer from the region of Bahia, in the North East of Brazil. He became famous for being one of the greatest Samba dancers in Bahia. He also made an short appearance in the soccer scene by playing for the soccer team Esporte Clube Guarany. In 1975, he recorded his first album “Samba, canto livre de um povo”. It was in the music field that he expressed his talent best. This album issued by Chantecler, is a pleasure for the ears. Ederaldo's sweet and rhythmic samba takes us straight to the Brazilian sun.

Di Melo ‎- Di Melo

Issued in 1975, Di Melo’s eponymous album remained the only album by the artist until 2016. Back then, Di Melo was an artist who would perform in the bars of Sao Paolo. The manager of EMI-Odeon noticed his talent and proposed that he recorded an album. Di Melo was one of the first artists to mix Samba with Soul and Funk. Nobody knows why but after this single recording, Di Melo disappeared from the music scene. Because of some Brazilian music lovers and collectors, the LP got the acknowledgement it deserved and now the first issues of the album have reached high values.

Carlos Dafé - Pra que vous recordar

Carlos Dafé also known as “the Prince of the Soul” was one of the most acknowledged artists of Samba Soul music. Halfway between black and brazilian music, Carlos Dafé makes us alternatively cry and dance with his album « Pra que vou recordar » issued in 1977.

Robson Jorge e Lincoln Olivetti

This Brazilian disco funk pop medley album remains unacknowledged. The groove that emanates from these 12 tracks matches the cool attitude of the two artists on the cover. These artists have also largely contributed to the releases of other artists such as Jorge ben, Marcos Valle and Sandra Sa. This must have album for any record collector will surely make you pulse and dance.

Sandra Sá - Sandra Sá 1982

The first title of the album sets the tone. Sandra Sa makes us groove with her voice and the funky flow of her musicians. Issued in 1982, the album is a mixture of soul, disco and Brazilian music with loads of sounds from the 80s. At the age of 27 only, with this second album, Sandra Sa imposed her voice and warned the audience: she would be here for long.

Seu Jorge - America Brazil o Disco

Seu Jorge is a contemporary artist from the Brazilian scene. Seu Jorge started to record with the group Farofa Carioca at the end of the 90s. Then the artist started his solo career in 2001 with his album Carolina. In 2007, his Samba Rock style stated loud and clear in America Brasil O Disco.This album is a mix of various influences. The titles Burguesinha, Mina Do Condominio and Samba Rock contain all the groove of Brazilian music.
