tenth full-length observation from one of the most revered, forward-thinking, genre-bending and respected bands in the entire metal genre has arrived and mesmerized with quite unexpected contents, but if you look back to 'Damnation' opus, some parallels are more than obvious, while the illuminated five-piece goes dramatically deeper into classic progressive rock/metal infinity, abandoning their death metal past for good, but at times keeping the composing intensity in some "old" murky way - ten cuts flow in quite a beautiful and stark, let alone diverse and peculiar way throughout, so it is impossible to ignore this change of settings in Opeth sound schemes, yet hands down it is an exceptional listening experience that acquires a refined and musically educated taste
